Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The Principles which guide the work of all Early Years Practitioners are grouped into four themes.

1         A Unique Child

2         Positive Relationships

3         Enabling Environment

4         Learning and Development

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) this document enables us to focus on each child as an individual and we cover all the seven areas:

1      Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

2      Physical Development.

3      Communication, Language.

4      Literacy.

5      Mathematics.

6      Understanding of the World.

7      Expressive Arts and Design.

The prime areas are: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language.

The specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

Further information with regards to the EYFS, observations, assessments and what is next to support your child’s development can be viewed is in your child’s  learning journal (file). Staff are always available to have a general chat and give feedback.

The curriculum is planned at three stages.

LONG TERM (rotates on a two year cycle) – These plans identify the learning opportunities that children have throughout their time at Swarland Preschool in order to help them progress towards the ‘Early Learning Goals’.

MEDIUM TERM – These plans focus on particular themes for each half term, themes are also taken from the children’s interests during the week or term. They identify all of the activities, experiences and resources that are planned to support and extend the child’s learning.

SHORT TERM – These plans are more detailed and identify what the children are doing on a weekly basis. They will respond to the children’s needs and interests.

Weekly photographs will be displayed in the cloakroom showing some child initiated play activities and activities staff have planned. All other plans are available and displayed in the play room.
