About Us

Swarland Preschool opened in 1982 using a spare classroom in Swarland Primary School. It was a much needed provision as up until then children either attended Longframlington Playgroup (if their parents had transportation to get them there), or did not go to a playgroup at all. How different from today!

In 1993 numbers in the school increased and the classroom was needed. The head-teacher kindly gave the playgroup the use of the school hall until suitable premises could be found. Staff, committee and parents took up the challenge, and while searching for a building; fund raising activities were in overdrive.

A grand opening ceremony on the 8th of September 1994 was held with the Duchess of Northumberland officially declaring us open.

1995 saw us with our own sweatshirts incorporating our logo “Chester Bear”. The bear was adopted as our logo due to the Teddy bear decor in the playgroup room. Its name comes from the fact that the preschool is situated in the school grounds at the bottom of Chester Hill.

In September 2016 the previous logo was updated to a new design which was created by a former Chester Bears attendee.

Swarland Preschool and Longframlington Preschool worked together and in 2005 they joined to operate at one site at Swarland School offering sessions in one building.

Over the years many people have helped, worked for, and supported Swarland Preschool; it would not have survived without them, and we ask you to continue this support.

In the Summer of 2008 the old portacabin was demolished and replaced with a much larger unit, thanks to the hard work of the Committee and Parents. Who helped raise a massive £60,000.

Preschool is for your child, you and your family. Enjoy your time with us.
